Docklands Community Singing Project to commence at Library at the Dock

The Open Door Singers are proud to announce an exciting new singing initiative to commence at Library at the Dock in conjunction with the City of Melbourne.

The eight week project aims to draw together members of the Docklands residential and business communities to sing for enjoyment and wellbeing.

Open Door Singers Director and professional conductor, Shaun Islip, said that the project will allow people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to find their voice and experience the joy of singing in a choir.

“The choir is open to everyone – no auditions are required,” he said. “There will be lots of laughter and learning, friendship and fun.”

“We will learn a wide repertoire of music, including songs by Adele and Coldplay, as well as familiar favourites by the Beatles, Elton John and Billy Joel.”

Open Door Singers is a not for profit organisation that aims to unite communities in song. Open Door Singers currently offers two community choirs in Camberwell and has plans to establish new choirs in the Dandenong and Box Hill / Nunawading areas.

“Group singing has been proven to improve our emotional, physical and mental wellbeing,” said Mr Islip.

“We are grateful for the City of Melbourne’s support to establish the foundation for an ongoing choir for the Docklands community.”

Rehearsals begin at Library at the Dock (107 Victoria Harbour Promenade, Docklands) on 14th April and will be held weekly on Tuesday evenings from 5.45 to 7.30pm.
