Melbourne by Bike

Come down to Ron Barassi Snr Park this Saturday 6th October for two Cycling Workshops hosted by the City of Melbourne.

Basic Bike Maintenance (9.30am)

This popular 2.5 hour demonstration workshop is brought to you by the City of Melbourne. In the first 2 hours, participants will learn how to undertake bike checks, make basic adjustments, take off a wheel, replace an inner tube, repair a puncture and clean a chain. The final 30 minutes will allow time for brief safety checks of participant bikes (bringing a bike is optional).

Handout notes and other useful info will be provided.

Tickets and further information can be found here

City Cycling with Confidence (12.30pm)

This 4.5 hour practical cycle skills training session is commissioned by the City of Melbourne. It is for adults who live, work or study in the municipality and who want to improve riding skills (off and on-road) and gain confidence on the bike. It covers bike set-up, safety checks, bike handling and traffic riding skills – and promotes safe and responsible bike riding.

The first part of the course will take place in a traffic free environment where participants will practice essential bike control skills. After a short snack break (BYO), there will be a group ride on local streets with and without marked bicycle lanes.

Two instructors will lead the group to visit intersections and roundabouts, and the group will ride on roads with and without bike lanes. There will be a focus on riding assertively and correct road positioning.
