New Year's Eve a Cracker at NewQuayNew Years Eve 2006 was a fantastic event at NewQuay. A perfect balmy evening drew record crowds of more than 50,000 to the harbourside precinct to enjoy the great dining, the bars and the entertainment. The theme was once again Carnivalé and the Latin influence was strong with roving musicians and bands, salsa dancers, fire twirlers and stilt walkers. The Promenade also featured a fantastic laser lighting display that bathed many of NewQuay's iconic buildings and sculptures in coloured lights and patterns Of course, the highlights of the night were the two fireworks displays, the first at 9.15pm and the finalé at midnight. The many families that brought children to the promenade for the first fireworks display were treated to a spectacular display against a twilight sky, but it was the midnight fireworks that heralded in 2007 in memorable style! Lasting more than 20 minutes and set against the twinkling Bolte Bridge, Melbourne has at last found a harbourside location to rival Sydney when it comes to pyrotechnic displays!
